A Paddock man has been jailed for 12 months after he assaulted his ex-girlfriend and breached a non-molestation order by going to her home.

Leeds Crown Court heard Jason Kyle Webster and the victim had begun a relationship early last year and she became pregnant to him.

Richard Walters prosecuting said the relationship had “its ups and downs” however in July 2014 she decided to end with him after he received imprisonment for supplying class A drugs.

She moved addresses while he was in custody so he would not know where she was. He was released on January 16 this year, the day she gave birth to their daughter and she then allowed him contact with the baby.

Things were amicable until he discovered she had formed a new relationship. “He didn’t take it well and began to threaten her,” said Mr Walters.

As a result of that the victim obtained a non-molestation order from Kirklees family court which barred him from contacting her, going to her address, threatening her or using violence against her.

Nothing unlawful happened until May 1 when the victim went out with a woman friend leaving her daughter with a babysitter at that friend’s home in Kirkheaton.

They had not been out long when they got a message from the babysitter about a man turning up at the address. When they returned they found it was Webster and as soon as the victim walked in he grabbed her necklace causing it to break and breaching the non-molestation order in the process.

He was told to leave and allegedly grabbed the victim’s hair and punched her after he did go outside. The friend described Webster calling the victim a whore before he eventually left in a taxi.

A second assault took place on May 4, when Webster tried to throttle her and beat her over the head with her phone.

Webster claimed he was acting out of concern for his child when he went to the friend’s house on the first occasion. He had since been recalled on his 16 month sentence for supplying drugs.

Michael Jowett representing Webster said he had reflected while in custody and wanted to express genuine remorse for his behaviour.

Webster, 22 of Church Street, Paddock, admitted two breaches of the non-molestation order and assaulting the victim causing her actual bodily harm.
