A man who drove his car while over the drink drive limit has had his case adjourned because of suspected mental health problems.

Mohammed Kammer, 30, of Larch Road, Paddock, Huddersfield, has a long record of driving while over the prescribed limit and driving while disqualified.

Kirklees Magistrates’ Court heard today that he has 14 previous convictions for 35 offences including six for driving while disqualified.

Prosecutor, Ben Smith, said the defendant was caught driving a Vauxhall Corsa on Cooper Bridge Road on June 16 by two police officers at 11.40pm.

He said they were on mobile patrol when they observed him pulling out of The Three Nuns pub and made him stop.

A breath test revealed he had 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Kammer pleaded guilty yesterday to driving while over the limit, driving while disqualified and using a vehicle without insurance.

Duty solicitor Marnat Ali said: “There are difficulties with alcohol and with his mental health.”

The case was adjourned until July 30 and the defendant was granted unconditional bail.

Chairman of the bench, Brian Hughes, told him all options were open including custody.
