FIREFIGHTERS had to break in after a pan filled a flat with smoke and triggered the smoke alarm.

The crews were alerted by neighbours who heard the alarm going off at the ground floor flat at Bradford Road, Fartown, at 1.30pm on Wednesday.

They had to break in to make sure no-one was trapped.

A woman had accidentally left some stew on and gone out. The stew was burned and the flat filled with smoke, which was vented by firefighters.
