HUDDERSFIELD Sea Cadets held their annual inspection - and it could be the last in their present headquarters.
The cadets are based at Snow Island, beside the River Colne, off King's Mill Road.
And they could soon have a new building on the same site if Kirklees planning chiefs give the project the green light next week.
At the ceremony, cadets aged between 12 and 18 gave demonstrations in navigation, First Aid and other skills.
They were inspected by Cmdr Dai Kent of the Royal Navy.
Following the inspection the prize-giving took place.
The cadets were awarded the Efficiency Pennant from Sea Cadet headquarters for the hard work carried out by the unit in 2005.
This award makes them one of the best in the country.
Despite the success, the cadets are faced with finding a new home soon.
The Sea Cadet unit has used Snow Island as a base since 1981.
Lt Cmdr Reginald Horner, chairman of the unit management committee said the proposals would mean they could get a new building and stay in the same area.
He said: "We are delighted we have got our separate entrance and separate car park in a secure area."
He said the present premises were two ex-Army huts that were made in the forties.
"They were getting to the point where they needed to be replaced or extensively repaired."
The plans, from Ripponden- based AQH Development Services, are for a new building for meetings and for modified access and parking for 28 cars.
Lt Cmdr Horner said the plans were expected to go before the planning committee next Thursday.
