Parents will hold a meeting with councillors and council officers over "unanswered questions" about the Almondbury schools merger.

The pledge to discuss the situation was made after Becky Donkersley presented a deputation to Kirklees Full Council on behalf of 130 concerned parents and grandparents.

Kirklees Council is consulting on a 'super school' proposal for Almondbury. They're looking at uniting Greenside Infant and Nursery School and  Almondbury Juniors with Almondbury High School. They would be based at the Fernside Avenue site.

Ms Donkersley outlined several areas of concern, including the poor consultation document, lack of detail about the head teacher of the merged school, building and facilities for younger children and what will become of the vacant school site.

Ms Donkersley said: "The proposal gives no attention that the requirements such as play areas, toilets and appropriate classrooms has been considered.

"What is the proposed budget for converting the high school into a purposeful junior suite. Why is the timescale so rushed?

"A successful merging school needs and outstanding head teacher in overall control. A head teacher needs experience of all key stages.

"There are so many unanswered questions..." She concluded that the consultation felt like a "box ticking exercise".

Clr Cath Harris, Cabinet member for education, said she and her colleagues would sit down with the group to "explore the issues" raised.
