Parking restrictions will soon return the roads around Calderdale Royal Hospital.

Calderdale Council had suspended parking charges throughout the town after losing an appeal, meaning they could not enforce 7,000 fines and had to pay back fines dating back to 2008.

But now a permanent Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) for the outskirts of Halifax town centre, Skircoat around Calderdale Royal Hospital, King Cross and the wider Halifax area will be in place from Monday, June 1.

Ian Gray, the council’s Director of Economy and Environment, said: “The new TRO will restore parking restrictions and charges to the outer area of Halifax. In most streets there have not been any changes from the existing parking arrangements and we’re also reintroducing parking charges at the previous rates.

“We will be doing some minor lining work, mainly around Skircoat, which should be completed before June 1.”

It will mean parking charges, residents parking permits and enforcement can resume after the October 2014 suspension.
