Parking fees for Huddersfield’s new leisure centre are to be set.

Kirklees Cabinet will be asked to set hourly fees at the same rate of the current sports centre.

The nearby Springwood car park could see an extra tariff of £1 after 4.30pm for 90 minutes.

There will be 110 spaces plus 10 disabled parking spaces at the new leisure centre, which Kirklees Council says will open on May 4.

Kirklees wants to mirror the parking fees at the current Southgate site, but says the changes to Springwood will give “customers some flexibility”.

Currently the Springwood car park has two fees – £2.50 for up to five hours or £4 for over five hours.

The £1 fee for 90 minutes is designed for people wanting to use the sport centre, but it’s only after 4.30pm.

In addition the Over 50’s Weekly Leisure Scheme (OWLS) will benefit from concessions given at the current sports centre.

The new proposal will cost Kirklees Council £20,000 which includes two new solar-powered pay and display machines; the new parking order and reprogramming current machines and replacing signs.

The proposed parking fee for Huddersfield leisure centre is as follows:

Monday to Saturday (8am to 6pm)

Up to 1 hour: 70p

Up to 90 minutes: £1

Up to 2 hours: £1.40

Up to 3 hours: £2.10

Up to 4 hours: £2.80

Sunday: 12pm to 6pm: £1
