PEOPLE who would normally spend Christmas Day alone are invited to a special party.

The Salvation Army in Huddersfield organises a party each year for people who would otherwise be alone - and this year's event will be held at Huddersfield Methodist Mission on Lord Street in Huddersfield town centre.

The Salvation Army can cater for up to 80 people and 30 places are still available.

They also need some more volunteers to help out, including drivers to pick people up and take them home again.

The day starts at 11am with a service led by Huddersfield Methodist Mission minister the Rev Alan Boyd, followed by Christmas dinner at noon.

Games and entertainment will follow before the Queen's Speech at 3pm and carol-singing at 3.30pm. The day will be rounded off with a tea.

Anyone who knows of people who will be alone this Christmas or would like an invitation can contact Captain Ernest Huby on 01484 513045.

Volunteer helpers should also phone the same number.
