ORGANISERS of the Party In The Park have revealed the three Huddersfield bands who will support headliners the Guillemots.

Project Sunset, Northern Beats and Buen Chico will be taking the stage with top acts Elliot Minor, The Script and Guillemots at the free event in Greenhead Park on June 29.

Clr Robert Light, leader of event organisers Kirklees Council, said: “We are delighted that local bands will be performing along with big name acts. It’s a great chance for everyone to celebrate some of our best local talent and enjoy the live music.”

All three bands were put forward for the performance by Beaumont Street Studios (BSS), a Huddersfield-based non-profit music and media production company.

The three acts have all been involved in projects to help them develop their music and performance during 2003 and 2004 at BSS’s studio arm, HD1 Studios.

Since then, they have continued to build their reputations on the local and wider music scenes.

Sean Leonard, chief executive of BSS, said: “We wanted to put bands forward that have had success as a result of our projects and bring them to attention. We also chose bands on the basis of quality and put forward a shortlist to the local authority so they could pick the acts they felt were right for the event.”

Northern Beats are a four-strong indie act from Holmfirth who have already supported a number of big names at the Picturedrome, including The Stranglers, Ocean Colour Scene and Fun Lovin’ Criminals.

They are currently recording their debut album at HD1 Studios with producer Dave Creffield, who has worked with bands including Embrace and Kaiser Chiefs.

Project Sunset formed in 2001 in Huddersfield and have quickly built up a strong following.

The foursome mix rock, dance and hip hop to create their sound. To make their set even more varied, they will be performing with a number of guest singers and musicians at Party In The Park.

Buen Chico are now based in Leeds, but are well-known on the Huddersfield scene and have strong links with the town through BSS.

The three-piece have been have been performing their mix of fiery pop, new wave, indie and punk together since 2003.

Their influences are eclectic and include Supergrass, The Ramones, The Smiths, The Flaming Lips, The Pixies and The Beatles.

Buen Chico are signed to Faith and Hope record label and brought out their debut album, Right To Re-arrange, in 2007.

They are currently preparing to record their second album for release later this year.

The three bands will go on stage at Party in the Park from 3.30pm. The main acts will take over proceedings from 6pm.

Kirklees Council has arranged a free shuttle bus service to and from Greenhead Park for the Party In The Park and the classical music event the night before (June 28), Proms In The Park.

The buses will run every 10 to 15 minutes from Springwood car park, St George’s Square, between 5.30pm and 11.30pm for Proms In The Park and from 2.30pm to 10.15pm for Party In The Park.

People visiting both the Concerts In The Park will be able to buy food and drink from stalls at the event, or are free to bring their own picnics as long as there are no glass containers.
