A HUDDERSFIELD businesswoman is planning one of the town's most colourful charity events.

Vicki Davenport, 39, owns The Pink Link Ltd haulage firm with her brother Richard Allen.

The Lower Crosland firm's lorries, uniforms and stationery are all pink - and now Vicki wants to use the colour to raise cash for cancer sufferers.

With her sister Beverley, she has organised a `Pink October' party at Huddersfield Rugby Union Club at Lockwood Park.

The event, on October 11, will have food, decor and tableware all in pink.

Guests will also be required to dress in the colour.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the breast cancer research appeal at Western Park Hospital in Sheffield.

The hospital is one of three in the country dedicated exclusively to cancer treatment and has a £2m cancer research centre funded by the appeal.

Vicki said she decided to hold the event in October because it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Vicki wanted to support a local cause rather than the national charities.

Appropriately, pink is the colour adopted by many breast cancer charities .

Vicki said: "The connection for us is obvious - our name, our livery.

"My daughter Ellysia even saves her pink pens for me to take to work.

"Our event is a sell-out but I hope people take the opportunity during October to support the hospital's cancer appeal."

The Pink Link Ltd already helps the appeal by collecting old printer cartridges which can be recycled for cash.
