PENSIONERS enjoyed a day of entertainment thanks to a church group.

More than 100 people were treated to lunch and musical entertainment as part of an annual event for senior citizens in Meltham.

The Roman Catholic church organised the party for 100 guests at St Bartholomew’s church hall on Saturday. A further 24 house-bound pensioners unable to get to the event were treated to a meal in their homes.

Kate McGenty, a helper at the event, said: “All the people seemed to have a really good time and enjoyed the food and the entertainment.

“It is something we do once a year to give something back to the elderly members of the community.”

Hobsons Choice provided the music, the pensioners played bingo and all were given a gift at the end of the party.
