PASSENGERS are being asked to come up with names for 14 new buses going into service in Huddersfield.

Arriva Yorkshire will unveil the new double-decker Lowlander buses in June.

They will operate on the 202 and 203 service, running between Huddersfield, Dewsbury, the White Rose Shopping Centre and Leeds.

The bus company is looking for people to be creative and come up with 14 names that will be featured on the front of the new buses.

The new fleet will offer easy access for disabled passengers. They are buggy friendly and have a CCTV surveillance system.

Chloe Leach, marketing manager for Arriva Yorkshire, said: "Buses are a key part of the community and we thought it would be good if we gave local people their say and name each of their new buses.

"These new high-quality buses represent an investment of almost £2m and will be dedicated to this route which runs every 15 minutes and serves many communities.

"We know that the people of West Yorkshire are proud of where they are from and we expect that the quality of names supplied will be very high. The names could be in the form of local heroes or locations."

As well as seeing their name emblazoned on the front of the bus, the winners will be the guests of honour at the VIP launch event at the White Rose Shopping Centre.

They will also receive a month's free travel on all Arriva Yorkshire buses.

To enter the competition call 0121 362 4010 or e-mail namethebus@ arriva.co.uk before the closing date of May 19.
