A HUDDERSFIELD footpath will remain closed for another month because of a hidden cellar.

Work to repair steps on the footpath has been held up because part of it has slid into an old cellar.

The flight of steps links Crosland Moor and Manchester Road.

The pathway leads from Park Road West at Crosland Moor, down a steep embankment on to Manchester Road, near Milnsbridge.

Rocks and a retaining wall fell from under the pathway, leaving some steps unsupported.

Yesterday, workmen used an excavator to clear some of the rubble.

The footpath will remain closed for several weeks.

A Kirklees Council spokesman said repairs would take longer than expected because of the problems caused by the cellar.
