An alcoholic man who harassed a couple with a tirade of homophobic abuse before threatening to burn their house down is to be evicted, a court heard.

Patrick Bradley, 53, admitted he had been so drunk whilst on medication for depression he often had no recollection of verbally abusing his neighbours.

Bradley of Moor End Road, Lockwood, appeared before Kirklees Magistrates Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive, insulting behaviour towards his neighbours Lucy Heard and Elizabeth North.

Prosecutor Linda Fowler said he would regularly shout abuse at his neighbours, despite signing an acceptable behaviour contract aimed to prevent such actions in January this year.

But the court heard he continued to behave inappropriately and shouted at the women, ‘dykes and ******* lemons’ when they were in their garden on March 23.

Bradley shouted at the women: "You think you’ve got the better of me but you haven’t. I’m going burn your house down.”

The court heard the couple were so distressed by the abuse that they attempted to move away for a while and tried to instead rent out their house.

But when the estate agent brought prospective tenants around to view the house he also became aggressive and the agents refused to take on the property,

Mike Sisson-Pell representing Bradley said his client is an alcoholic and often ‘suffered memory loss’ whilst drinking on medication,

He said he is a ‘vulnerable’ man and is seeking help from mental health services for depression.

Magistrates adjourned the case to allow for pre-sentence reports and granted conditional bail.

The court heard Bradley will be evicted from the property, which is rented via a private landlord, on April 1.

He had earlier appeared before the courts for playing loud music and disturbing neighbours and even had his speakers confiscated by environmental heath officers.

Bradley will be sentenced on April 16 at 2pm.
