HUDDERSFIELD University Chancellor Patrick Stewart was chosen to address a top-level conference.

The Star Trek and X-Men actor was invited to address a national meeting of university chancellors and vice- chancellors at the House of Commons.

The meeting was organised by Universities UK, the national body for all UK higher education institutions.

Stewart addressed the gathering, along with the former Hong Kong Governor, Chris Patten, now Lord Patten, who is Chancellor of both Oxford and Newcastle universities.

The pair were invited to speak about their own reasons for, and experiences of, being a chancellor.

The event was well attended by chancellors and their vice-chancellors.

Stewart has been praised for raising the profile of Huddersfield University.

He made a TV ad which helped to attract a record number of applications from would-be students.
