PEOPLE in Huddersfield are being given the chance to influence what community work offenders should be made to do. Dewsbury MP Shahid Malik, who is also justice minister, launched the Community Payback scheme. It will give the public a chance to nominate projects in their area. Mr Malik said: “It’s crucial that the public has a say in what community punishments offenders receive. A community sentence can do more to cut reoffending than a short prison sentence.” More information at www.direct.gov.uk
