A peacock is ruffling feathers in Slaithwaite.

The mystery feathered visitors has been hanging around homes in the Yew Tree Lane area for the past few days.

And the bold bird has even been walking up to doorsteps in his travels around the area.

No-one knows where the bird has come from but some are getting a little concerned.

Wendy Linley, who managed to grab a photo of the visitor in her garden, said: “The weather hasn’t been very good and he is looking a bit sad, with bedraggled feathers.

“I first noticed him last Saturday on the roof of the bungalow behind my house but people have said they had seen him a day or two earlier.

“He seems to have been hanging around the street since last Tuesday. One of the neighbours rang the police and someone else called the RSPCA but it seems there is nothing they can do.

“He has even been seen walking up to front doorsteps.

“I have checked and I gather peacocks don’t fly very well so I presume he must have escaped from somewhere fairly local”.
