A COUPLE who were childhood penfriends are celebrating their golden wedding.

Philip and Anne Kaye met as youngsters after writing to each other and married at Blackwell Methodist Chapel, Derbyshire, where Mrs Kaye was brought up.

Mr Kaye, who was brought up in Meltham, spent many years working at David Brown Tractors where he was a foreman, and later worked at Marshalls' factory in Southowram.

His wife was a trained seamstress but also spent 24 years working as a domestic assistant at the former Royd Edge School in Meltham.

The couple have two daughters, three sons and nine grandchildren.

Both enjoy caravanning.

They celebrated their anniversary with a family party at Meltham Sports Centre.
