A pensioner had her bag snatched - yards from a police station in Huddersfield.

Police are now appealing for witnesses after the woman fell victim to a thief in Fartown.

The incident happened yesterday morning between 10am and 10:45am on Bradford Road, Fartown, in Huddersfield, next to the police box.

The station is not manned but is used by officers working in the area.

A male suspect approached the 71-year-old woman from behind as she was leaving the grassed area behind the police box and grabbed her handbag which fell to the ground which he picked up and ran off.

The suspect is described as white male, of skinny build, 5ft 10” and wearing a grey t-shirt, navy hoodie and tracksuit bottoms.

PC Kevin Potts, of Huddersfield District Police, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed anything or saw the suspect running off with the lady’s handbag.

“Anyone with any information or saw this man in the area on the day, is asked to contact myself via 101 quoting reference 13160128124.”
