A NETHERTHONG pensioner died after falling downstairs at his home.

Douglas Clark, 84, died on January 30 at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

An inquest at Huddersfield held yesterday heard that Mr Clark fell down stairs at his home on Leas Avenue during the early hours of January 30. He had got up to use the bathroom.

His wife found him at the bottom of the stairs, near the front door of their flat.

Ambulance crews were there when he arrived, but could not get in because Mr Clark had fallen against the door.

After climbing in through a window they took him to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

They found he had fractured his skull and his condition deteriorated quickly.

He died in intensive care at 11.50am on January 30.

Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded a verdict of accidental death.
