A pensioner was rescued from an overturned car after her husband drove into a central reservation.

The accident happened at the junction of Leeds Road and Bradley Road, Bradley, at around 11am today.

The Vauxhall Astra driver, in his 70s, was attempting a right turn onto Leeds Road when he lost control of his car.

It is not known whether a mechanical fault or the driver caused the accident.

The driver was helped out of his car by a police officer before his wife – also in her 70s – was freed from the vehicle via the tailgate by firefighters from Huddersfield and Cleckheaton.

Both were taken to hospital but were not thought to have been seriously hurt.
