People across Kirklees are getting vainer by taking more care about the way they look.

Figures have shown there has been huge nationwide increase in the number of businesses dedicated to hair and beauty in the past half-decade.

The study by the Office For National Statistics shows numbers within Kirklees have risen well above the national average to 250 last year, seemingly revealing that people of Kirklees have become increasingly obsessed with their looks since the start of the decade.

This is part of a trend taking place across all of West Yorkshire which has seen an overall rise of 70% in such businesses, a rise comfortably outstrips the national average which stands at just under 54% for the same period. On a local level, however, Bradford has seen the biggest increase in beauty based businesses, rising a massive 93%.

Across the whole of the UK 41,410 workplaces were classed as being involved in hairdressing and other beauty treatments in 2015. This represents an increase of 53.7% compared to the equivalent figure of 26,935 for 2010 and means there are currently 6.4 of these businesses for every 10,000 people.
