A person has been killed after being hit by a train near Hipperholme.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “We were called to the line close to Hipperholme Tunnel in Hipperholme, Halifax at 2.45pm today after reports that a person had been struck by a train.

“Our officers attended alongside colleagues from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“The Office of Rail Regulation and Rail Accident Investigation Branch have been informed.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The fatality caused severe disruption for rail services around Huddersfield and Calderdale.

The line re-opened at 4.15pm.
