Popstar and TV presenter Peter Andre was in Huddersfield early today to help launch the Pride of Britain Awards.

And he ended up with a not-so Mysterious Girl – 72-year-old Doreen Pursell.

Doreen, there with two-year-old grandson Alexander, was give a kiss from Peter ... and it made her day.

“Oh he was lovely, I liked my kiss very much, it was fantastic,” she said.

“We saw all the vans so came out for a nosey and was surprised to see Peter Andre here, it’s a great start to the day.”

Peter said: “The one thing I’ve always admired about British people it that they always come together when they need to come together.

“There are so many unsung heroes and a lot of them get forgotten until a day like this, a lot of them don’t even think the deserve to be recognised.”

Peter’s presence with the Pride of Britain bus soon attracted crowds and residents came out of their Newsome homes to shake his hand.

Peter has been the star of several reality TV shows since meeting model Katie Price while a contestant on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. The couple married in 2005 and have two children although they divorced four years later.

Peter and partner Emily MacDonagh had a baby girl in January this year.

During his pop career he sold 1m singles and 580,000 albums in the UK and his best-known song was Mysterious Girl.

The high profile Daily Mirror coach is now touring the country looking to find the unsung heroes and heroines – and those selected for the awards will be feted at a national presentation ceremony screened on national TV.

Last year’s winner of the Local Hero category, for example, was 86-year-old street pastor Anne Scarfe from Plymouth who goes out late at night to make sure revellers get home safely.

The bus has already stopped off at ITV’s Good Morning Britain and the ITN news studios to give it a national profile as the search for this year’s winners gets underway.
