A PETITION signed by 705 people was handed to Kirklees Cabinet urging consultation over a green space.
People in Denby Dale signed the petition in a bid to save Churchfields as a village green and amenity.
Denby Dale Parish Church is proposing allotments on the site, but the villagers want a proper consultation about its use.
Clrs Elaine Ward and Jim Dodds handed the petition to Kirklees Cabinet.
Clr Mehboob Khan, leader of the authority, accepted it and said the assistant director would investigate and report back to them.
Residents are still calling for a public consultation.
