PEOPLE have been warned about a woman possibly trying to con people out of cash by saying she has run out of petrol.
A man contacted the Examiner after seeing the woman twice within a few days.
Both times she was carrying a petrol can and asking for money.
David Leese, of Grange Moor, first encountered the woman in Almondbury two weeks ago.
She said she had run out of fuel and had a petrol can with her.
She asked for £2 for petrol as she needed to get to Kirkheaton.
She said if Mr Leese gave his address she would pay him back.
Mr Leese said: "I offered her a lift and she said: Don't bother, I'll walk' and left."
He said he saw the woman near Albany Road in Dalton last Tuesday, flagging down cars. Again, she had a petrol can.
Mr Leese said he thought it was a scam and was anxious to warn other people.
Huddersfield police's Pc Dave McSweeney said: "We've had no other reports about this woman.
"But it may be people have simply not reported it because they thought she was genuine.
"It's certainly a strange one," added Pc McSweeney.
Mr Leese said the woman was scruffy, in her 30s and slightly overweight, with mousy hair.
