UNUSUAL worshippers attended a special service at Huddersfield Parish Church.

Family pets were welcome at the service, organised by the RSPCA.

Kirklees Mayor Clr Barbara Allonby attended the service, taken by the Vicar of Huddersfield, the Rev Catherine Ogle.

The RSPCA asked the church to host the service.

It followed the success of the first ever animal welfare service at the parish church last year.

West Yorkshire has one of the country's worst animal cruelty records.

Last year saw a rise in the number of attacks on animals, with one in every 10 prosecutions involving a brutal or violent act against an animal.
