FIVE rabbits and a guinea-pig were just dumped at the side of a busy road in Dalton.

The terrified animals were not even in a box, but incredibly they were spotted by a passer-by and taken to Donaldson and Partners vets in Maple Street, Aspley.

But now they need a home.

Veterinary nurse Emma Holmes, 23, is looking after the two one-year-old female rabbits, a trio of 12-week-old babies and the two-year-old guinea pig.

Emma, from Cumberworth, said "It is unbelievable that someone could be so cold hearted as to just dump these animals.

"When they were found they just had some sawdust, not even a box. We do not know if there were some others that ran away after they were dumped.

"It was freezing cold last week and we are not sure how long they had been in the terrible weather without shelter.

"But they have been checked out and they are all well - so now we want to find them a home."

If you think you could offer any of the animals a loving home, contact Emma on 01484 421512 during office hours or 01484 688644 in the evenings.

A £20 adoption fee would be payable to the RSPCA to cover neutering and vaccination fees.
