A couple whose wedding weekend was cancelled at the last minute have been given a lifeline by hoteliers.

Managers at Cedar Court Hotel at Ainley Top, the Woodman at Thunderbridge, holiday renters JNT Destinations and holiday company Celtic Castles have all contacted the Examiner with offers of help for ‘devastated’ Outlane couple Phil Birkhead and Sophie Georgewilliams, who received a shock letter which said that their plans to host some of their wedding at Carr Hall Castle, owned by entrepreneur Terry George, could no longer go ahead.

They received it along with a refund just three months before their wedding on August 14, which has left them with no place to host the bridal party, a barbecue for 30 friends and without a two night honeymoon suite and accommodation for guests.

Fortunately, both their wedding ceremony at St James Church in Hebden Bridge and their reception remains unaffected.

All four properties have said they have space for the party on their wedding weekend.

Phil, of Grange Close, said: “It’s wonderful news and good of them to offer to help us.

“I will have a chat with Sophie and we will decide what to do.”
