A PLANNING bid to put a phone mast in a children's play area has been exposed as a spoof. The realistic planning notice was found attached to posts at Scapegoat Hill and what villagers read immediately sparked protests. It stated that a 10-metre high mast was to be sited by Vodafone in the recreation ground, opposite the newly-reopened Scape House pub. A petition and protests were being organised, but after close checks with Kirklees planners it was discovered it was all an elaborate hoax. One resident said: "The notice looked like a genuine one with planning reference numbers, the name of the Kirklees planner to contact and how long people had to object. It seemed a ridiculous plan - thank goodness, it was just that."
