POLICE have urged people to be aware who is near them when they use their mobile phones.
A 21-year-old man had his phone snatched while in a queue for a cashpoint outside a bank in Huddersfield town centre on Thursday lunchtime.
Pc Dave McSweeney, of Huddersfield police, said: "The man was in the queue when his mobile phone rang. He answered it, but the thief was behind him.
"He grabbed the phone and fled.
"We would urge people just to glance around before using their phones.
"If you are not sure you are safe or the people near you look suspicious, then don't use the phone."
The thief who struck on Thursday is white, in his early 20s, 5ft 8in tall and he wore a white baseball cap, a blue jacket and blue jeans.
