TEENAGE pianist Alexandra Marlow is playing a happy tune after achieving outstanding results in a piano exam.

Alexandra, 17, of Fixby, passed her grade eight advanced level music performance exam with honours.

She played three piano pieces - one by Scarlatti, one by Mozart and a contemporary rock piece.

She was only six marks away from achieving a maximum score.

Her teacher, Louise Taylor, who tutors piano privately in Elland, said: "It's a great achievement. I'm extremely proud of her and the examiner was very impressed.

"Grade eight is the highest grade you can get and she thinks she should go on to do a diploma.

"A lot of performers don't reach grade eight because there is a lot of work involved. Anyone who does is excellent."

Alexandra took her exam at the London College of Music and Media.

Two of Louise Taylor's other pupils also took exams at the college.

Joshua Lowther, 12, of Elland, passed his grade two foundation level music performance with merit. William Chan, 16, of Lindley, passed his grade five intermediate level music performance.
