THIS image captures the scale and diversity of the Marsden Moor estate.

The photograph was taken by reader Paula Perfitt and shows the view up the Wessenden Valley from Old Mount Road, featuring huge Butterley Reservoir in the foreground.

Paula hails from Portsmouth and moved up to Marsden four years ago when she married husband, Carl.

Note the path on the left hand side of the reservoir. This goes all the way up to the top of Wessenden Head Road and passes other reservoirs on the way.

The National Trust states: “This is a wild and remote valley looking down across Blakeley and Butterley reservoirs. There are often fantastic sunsets here. It is also a great place to spot moorland birds such as golden plover, grouse, curlew and twite, which all breed here in good numbers.’’

But for those not wanting to go quite so far there is a circular walk around Butterley Reservoir which has been created by the Colne Valley Tree Society in partnership with Yorkshire Water and the White Rose Forest.

The walk features a wild wood and it can be a tricky walk as it features bogs, steep drops and stream crossings.
