THESE youngsters had just finished an evening’s canoeing when they decided to cool down in the summer sun.

The community-spirited children had been canoeing on the canal when the fire service got their hose out.

They are all members of the Colne Valley Open Award centre, based at The Basement in Slaithwaite Town Hall and had been taking part in a Fire Service and Adventures Actives program when the hoses were turned on them.

Ben Walker, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Recreation Leader, said: “The Young People had just been canoeing on the canal when the fire service got the hose out and it turned into a massive water fight on a fantastic summer’s evening.”

If you want to join in the fun there are five Duke of Edinburgh’s Open Award centres in Kirklees.
