Firefighters are tackling a blaze in a derelict Leeds city centre office block that has seen smoke billowing out from the building.

A spokesman said the fire was in five per cent of the third storey of the building so was well contained and was not expected to spread.

He said firefighters were alerted at 2.37pm to the 14-floor building, believed to be a former British Gas office block in Trafalgar Street with the junction of Bridge Street.

Twitter users have been sending pictures onto the social network as thick plumes of smoke escaped from the building.
