The river turned bright yellow in Holmfirth to mark a renowned event.

It was down to the 10,000 rubber ducks which were poured into the River Holme from the town centre and raced down to a bridge in Sands Recreation Ground on Sunday.

And lucky owner of duck 140 was named victor, winning £2,000 after the 40-minute race, that ended just before the heavens opened.

The race was just one of the events that took place over the weekend to celebrate the event’s 32nd year.

Its organisers, Huddersfield Pendragon Round Table, filled the Sands Recreation Ground with dozens of stalls and also held a music festival, Duck Stock, for the first time on Saturday.

Eight bands, who covered everything from banjo and accordion led folk tunes to hard rock, got thousands of revellers dancing in the summer sun.

Talking about the weekend, one of the organisers, Ben Prince, said: “It’s been a really great event and the addition of Duck Stock was a big success, which we will continue next year.

“In all around 3,000 to 4,000 people have come along and raised around £8,000.

“We’d like to thank everyone who came along, the stall holders and the Huddersfield South West District Scouts for their help marshalling.”
