A logistics company headquarters in Huddersfield could be demolished to make way for a luxury housing estate.

But The Pink Link insist they want to relocate to new premises in Kirklees.

David Wilson Homes (DWH), of Leicestershire, wants to build 27 homes on what is currently the site of Pink Link, off Crosland Factory Lane, South Crosland.

The developer hopes to build detached houses with four and five bedrooms on the 1.5-hectare site.

The application, made on behalf of DWH and Pink Link, says the logistics firm will relocate if the plan is passed by a Kirklees Council planning committee.

Pink Link director, Richard Allen, said the business needs a more ‘user-friendly’ location but the company would be staying in Kirklees.

The transport firm is family run and has grown rapidly over the last 20 years.

It is part of Palletways (UK) Ltd, the national distribution network who are market leaders in their field.

The firm’s base lies on a brownfield land, where redevelopment is encouraged, although the site is within green belt, which is subject to stricter planning regulations.

But a statement on behalf of DWH said the housing estate would have less visual impact than the current buildings.

It said: “Our intention is to deliver a secure and sustainable development of modern family homes and community uses in a safe, green and welcoming environment.

“The amount of development proposed on site is significantly reduced to that of the existing buildings with the visual impact demonstrating that the effects of the development are neutral and of minor to moderate impact.”

A public consultation on the plan ends today.

Neighbour Peter Sargent said he and other residents were broadly in favour of the development but had some concerns about the impact 27 homes would have on the local infrastructure.

Mr Sargent said: “As I see, it is good for the area bringing more people in to spend their income on goods and services locally.”

Holme Valley North councillor, Charles Greaves, added: “We can see the benefits to the business owner, to the developer, and to the new home owners – but what they will do for residents and the local community needs to be clearer.”
