TRAFFIC congestion at a notorious bottleneck will be eased in a £4m scheme.
Buildings will be demolished in the bid to beat the jams at Hipperholme crossroads - the junction of the A58, A644 and A649.
Work is expected to start in 2008, although Calderdale Council is looking at ways to bring the date forward.
Safer crossings for pedestrians will be included in the scheme.
Members of the council's cabinet approved the plans at a meeting.
The scheme will involve the acquisition and demolition of a number of properties, close to the junction on the Halifax side.
A council spokesman said 30-plus properties would be directly affected.
The owners have been contacted, informing them of the plans.
Letters have gone to a further 170 people whose properties are in the immediate vicinity.
The council will get in touch with the owners in the new year with details of how individual properties will be affected.
