A DISUSED gasworks in Dewsbury is set to become a new business park.
Plans have been submitted to transform the 22-acre British Gas site on Bretton Street, Savile Town, into a modern business park.
The application calls for permission to level and clean up the site, create access roads and build a 30,000sq ft unit, as well as several smaller premises.
The application has been submitted by Bretton Park Developments, a joint venture company set up by Scunthorpe-based Clugston Construction and Leeds-based developer PPG Land.
The move has been welcomed by Kirklees Council's economic develop- ment unit, which has `a long list' of firms wanting to move to new sites in the area.
Roland Sampson, the council's property investment manager, said: "There is a shortage of new industrial land.
"We are delighted to see the private sector investing in this site."
Mr Sampson said the redeveloped site would appeal to companies in Kirklees and West Yorkshire area looking for modern, larger premises.
He said the site could be developed fairly quickly once planning matters had been agreed, with initial work this year.
