PLANS to extend a play area are to go ahead, thanks to a last-minute grant.

The project in Broadlands, Meltham, which had been threatened by rising costs of tarmacadam and steel, has been saved with £4,000 from Kirklees Council’s Holme Valley North Area Committee.

Cash has also come from Meltham Town Council and the Meltham Town Hall Fund.

New facilities will include two multi-play units, a space net and a girospiral.

Seating, play bark, railings, litter bins and tarmac are also part of the plans.

Holme Valley North councillor David Woodhead said: “I am delighted the area committee approved this funding.

“The play area will be a real boost for local children, making this scheme too important to lose.”
