Bakery chain Greggs has unveiled plans for another shop in Huddersfield.

This time they’re looking to move into a new unit at the Leeds Road Retail Park.

They bakery store has applied to Kirklees Council for planning consent for six signs for Unit C at the retail park.

It will be among three retailers to move into the unit at the retail park once building work is complete.

There have been suggestions that Starbucks and Subway could occupy the other two units, which will be near to the new Burger King drive-thru that is being built on the corner of Bradley Mills Road and Leeds Road.

Greggs already has a booming base in and around Huddersfield, with branches at the Piazza, in the Kingsgate, on New Street and at Upperhead Row, plus a branch at Leeds Road, Bradley, one on Wakefield Road and another in Birchencliffe.

The arrival of two new drive-thru venues will mean extra competition for fast food rivals McDonald’s and KFC, and coffee giant Costa, which already have sites on Leeds Road.

Greggs has not yet commented on the latest plans.
