FOUR special plaques celebrating the River Colne have been put up in Milnsbridge, Linthwaite, Slaithwaite and Marsden.
The plaques - bearing the name River Colne - are at main crossings over the waterway in the four Colne Valley villages.
Each plaque - made from spray-painted galvanised steel - has a unique design, incorporating details about the history of the river in relation to each village.
They were designed by local people and artist Cate Clark, working on a project called Naming The River.
This was run by the River Colne Project and paid for by the Countryside Agency's Local Heritage Initiative.
Mick Smith, River Colne project officer, said: "I'm very pleased with the outcome of the project.
"The plaques are great and were definitely needed.
"They are much more attractive than a boring street sign."
A set of free postcards were also designed through Naming The River.
They can be obtained from Marsden Information Point, Slaithwaite Library, Milnsbridge Post Office and the Rail and River Centre in Slaithwaite.
Mick said: "We hope people send them all over the world to celebrate the valley's history and beauty."
