AN official Downing Street response has gone out to the 11,000 people who signed Adrian’s petition for better education about bone marrow donation.

The Sign Up For Sudders campaign was lodged on the Downing Street website on May 23.

The petition called for Gordon Brown to drive a change in education policy to ensure 17- and 18-year-olds in the UK are educated as standard about bone marrow donation.

It received 11,260 online signatures before closing on July 23 – when Adrian, 27, (pictured) made his last big outing to deliver it personally to Number 10.

Adrian died on August 20 of the leukaemia he had battled for 18 months.

The Downing Street response said: “Adrian Sudbury was a true hero whose selflessness and courage made him an inspiration to all who knew him and many who didn’t. The Prime Minister was pleased to be able to meet Adrian, and to discuss with him how he could help to support his campaign to increase awareness of bone marrow donation, particularly in schools.

“We hope the reply assures you of the Government’s commitment to educating young people about the importance of bone marrow and organ donation. Adrian’s memory will continue to inspire action for many years to come, and the Prime Minister’s thoughts remain with his family and friends.”
