Police officers who tried to save the life of a Rastrick woman were commended for their actions.

The three police constables - Annette Holliday, Scott Leyson and Kimberley Spencer - were given Letters of Appreciation by the St John Ambulance organisation.

They were a thank-you for their efforts to save a woman who took her own life.

The officers also supported the woman's husband who was in the house at the time.

Sadly, their attempts to save her failed.

Chief Supt Max Mclean, Calderdale divisional commander said: "All officers involved responded promptly to what was a difficult situation.

"They were considerate and supportive to the bereaved husband and I am pleased that their actions have been rec- ognised and rewarded in this way."

The officers received their awards at Halifax police station.
