Police have made a new appeal for help in investigating a horror crash which claimed the life of a Huddersfield man.

Mr Frank Meal, 87, of Linthwaite, died after the head-on crash near Flockton on Sunday.

Now police are trying to trace the driver of a third car who may have vital information.

Mr Meal was the driver of a blue Honda Civic heading towards Flockton from the Bretton roundabout when it was involved in the crash on the A637 Bar Lane, approaching The Black Bull.

The Civic was in collision with a blue Mini One travelling in the opposite direction.

Mr Meal’s female passenger – a 74-year-old woman – was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. She remains in a “serious but stable” condition.

Officers want to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision which happened about 4.45pm.

They would particularly like to talk to the driver of a dark-coloured Vauxhall car which was possibly an Insignia.

Anyone with any information should contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293 047.
