TWO youths were arrested after a police chase in Denby Dale.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the pursuit, which ended in a crash.

The pursuit started at 10am yesterday when traffic policeman Pc Phil Shaw spotted a maroon Ford Fiesta car in the centre of Skelmanthorpe, which had been reported stolen from Upper Cumberworth on Thursday night.

Pc Shaw pursued the car around several side streets in Skelmanthorpe and then down farm tracks to Gilthwaites Lane in Denby Dale, near to Gilthwaites Infants School, and then to Wakefield Road.

Pc Shaw said at one point two men walking dogs had to pick their pets up and jump into the hedgerow.

"We would like to speak to them and anyone else who saw what happened."

The chase ended at Wakefield Road near the junction with Leak Hall Lane when the Fiesta crashed.

Pc Shaw arrested a 14-year-old boy from Cumberworth. A man pursued a 15-year-old boy from Liversedge and detained him.

Both have been charged with aggravated vehicle-taking.

Witnesses are asked to contact Pc Shaw on 01484 436847.
