Residents fear shooting is "gang-related"

Reporter Andrew Robinson has been speaking to more eyewitnesses.

One said: “He came hopping out of the barbers’. His friend drove off. He stayed as armed police and paramedics arrived.

Another said: “The lad who was shot was calm about it. It wasn’t life-threatening. He was hopping about.”

One resident said: “You would think heavy jail sentences are a deterrant but it’s not doing anything. It’s worrying people can get guns. Birkby is a nice place, this incident is very unusual.

“This area is very popular for shops and I’m shocked, flabbergasted. We don’t know what’s led up to this but we are worried it’s gang-related. The worst thing is how easily people are getting hold of guns. It’s shocking.”
