A man needed hospital treatment after being assaulted outside a Huddersfield bar.

The 25-year-old was attacked outside Five Bar in Cross Church Street in the early hours of yesterday (Sun).

Police officers and the ambulance service were called to the area at 2.48am.

Police sealed off the pavement close to the bar as they carried out investigations.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to a facial injury and later discharged.

Police say he was punched by another man who was wearing a black T-shirt.

Five Bar owner Mark Hollingsworth said: "This incident had nothing to do with us. We had been shut from 2.40am and neither the assailant nor the victim had been inside our premises."

Enquiries are continuing and anyone who saw the assault or has any information is asked to contact Huddersfield CID on 101.
