CARS raced through Huddersfield in a high-speed chase.

And the West Yorkshire Police helicopter was called in to help as three police vehicles pursued a Vauxhall Astra through Deighton and Fartown yesterday afternoon.

The chase began when the vehicle allegedly failed to stop for officers at Ochrewell Avenue in Deighton at 12.35pm yesterday.

Police stopped the car a mile away on Woodhouse Hill in Fartown, close to North Huddersfield Trust School.

A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Two police cars were parked on Woodhouse Hill at 1.15pm while officers spoke to a hand-cuffed young man. He was taken away five minutes later.

Police said inquiries were continuing.
