A LOCAL business is teaming up with police in Spen Valley to stop metal thieves in their tracks.

The Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team have teamed up with Cleckheaton scrap merchants, J T Shingelton & Sons as police continue the fight against metal theft.

Officers recently visited the Brick Street business and, after discussing metal theft matters with them, signed the firm up to a crime prevention scheme.

Acting Sgt Nick Doyle of the Spen NPT said: “It is great to have one of our local scrap merchants signing up to help us fight metal theft in this way.

"By agreeing to take full records of people visiting their premises to sell scrap, Shingleton & Sons are helping us to be able to investigate thefts more thoroughly and identify regular offenders more easily.”

Any local merchants who would like to speak to the police further about the scheme should contact the Spen NPT via 101.
